- Came to power in a popular revolution against an authoritarian president in 2005.
- Promised several key reforms including curbing presidential powers.
- However, during his reign
- several key prominent politicians were murdered
- several prision riots occured
- economic situation worsened and energy prices soared
- tried to wrest to control of kyrgyztan's lucrative businesses
- Got relected in 2009, with his supporters claiming he would now deal with political and economic reform
However, the people of kyrgyztan got fed up of his despotism and brought him down in another popular revolution in 2010
Mohmaed Nasheed

Came to power when all opposition parties united against an authoritarian president in 2008
promised several key reforms including separation of powers
However, during his reign
- two key politicians were arrested without cause under false pretences
- locked the supreme court and ordered the police and army to take control of the supreme court building preventing supreme court justice from attending
- bribed or blackmailed several indpendent and opposition parliamentarians to join his party
- prisoners burned down the main prison in the Maldives
- economic situation worsened due to mismanagement leading to the devaluation of the currency and rising food and energy prices
- awarded multi-milion dollar projects and assets to family, friends and party activists
*- handed over control of the Mladives's most productive asset and international airport to his friend in GMR in one of the most corrupt deals the country had ever seen; when the board of the airports company refused to sign the agreement he fired those who opposed and appointed loyalists who signed the agreement in less than 24 hours after they were appointed.
- And now he is promising that 2014, if he gets re-elected would be the year of mercy
